France - Canal du Midi - part 3

This is the clock tower at Marseillette. It was very important in the 18th century for communications. The ex-priest here invented a system of optically transmitting messages rapidly through a relay system using this tower and others. It caught the interest of Napolean at the time and was in use in 1793. Not long after, however, morse code took over! Marseillette is an interesting town to explore by bike or foot.
